NDHSAA Board Synopsis - (June 7, 2022)

VALLEY CITY, N.D. – The North Dakota High School Activities Association Board of Directors met in person on June 7 in Valley City.

The following were agenda items were discussed or acted on:

  • The Board approved seven items from Athletic Review.

  • Among the items approved by the Board from Athletic Review was moving the entire girls hockey season one week later for the 2022-23 & 2023-24 seasons on a two-year experimental basis. The 2023 NDHSAA Girls Hockey State Tournament will be held March 2-4 at MAYSA Arena in Minot.

  • The Board approved 10 items from Fine Arts Review.

  • Tournament sites for 2023 NDHSAA Spring Sports were approved. Current Board-Approved Tournament Sites. Select “2022-23” tab for 2022-23 Region and State Tournament sites.

  • The Board approved a Tournament Committee recommendation to move the 2022 NDHSAA Boys Tennis State Tournament (October 6-8) to Minot and the East Region Boys Tennis Tournament (Sept. 29-30, Oct. 1) to Grand Forks.

  • The Board approved a Tournament Committee recommendation to move the 2023 Class A Baseball/Softball Tournaments to West Fargo and Fargo. The 2023 Class A Baseball State Tournament (June 1-3) will be hosted at Young Field in West Fargo and the 2023 Class A Softball State Tournament (June 1-3) will be hosted at Tharaldson Park in Fargo.

  • Team payments for member schools during the 2021-22 school year were approved by the Board. Team payments are allocated annually with funds being distributed back to NDHSAA member schools through the NDHSAA’s team payment plan. A total of $658,004.00 has been allocated to the NDHSAA’s team payment plan for the 2021-22 school year  

  • The Board welcomed a new member school – Minot North High School.

  • The Board approved the officers for the 2022-23 school year. Dave Schoch, Velva School Superintendent, will be Board President. Josh Johnson, Superintendent of Valley City Public Schools, will be Vice President.

  • The Board and NDHSAA Staff thanked 2021-22 officers – President Dr. Mark Rerick (Grand Forks Public Schools Athletic Director) and Vice President Jeremy Brandt (Central Valley School Superintendent) for their service as board members the last four years.

  • The Board of Directors next scheduled meeting is September 22.
