NDHSAA Member School Alumni: Jordan Shearer, former wrestling standout at West Fargo High

This week's NDHSAA Member School Alumni Spotlight shines on Jordan Shearer, a 2015 graduate of West Fargo High School. Below is a list of accomplishments in Shearer’s prep and collegiate athletic career.

JORDAN SHEARER - PREP WRESTLING STANDOUT

GRADUATION YEAR: 2015, WEST FARGO HIGH SCHOOL

HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING CAREER

  • Sported a 38-10 record as a seventh grader, a 44-4 record as an eighth grader, a 41-1 record as a freshman, 50-2 record as a sophomore, a 50-3 record as a junior and a 36-1 record as a senior.

  • Won a state record six NDHSAA individual state championships (103 pounds in 2010 and 2011, 113 pounds in 2012, 126 pounds in 2013, 132 pounds in 2014 and 145 pounds in 2015)

  • Named 2015 NDHSCA Class A, East Region Senior Athlete of the Year.

  • Named 2015 NDHSCA Class A Senior Athlete of Year.

  • Helped the Packers to four NDHSAA Class A Team Dual state championships in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014. 

  • Helped the Packers to two NDHSAA Class A Team Individual state championships in 2012 and 2013. 

  • Helped West Fargo High to six East Region team individual championships (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015).

  • Finished his prep wrestling career with a 259-21 individual record and at the time of his graduation he was the all-time winningest prep wrestler in state history. The mark was later surpassed by former high school wrestling teammate Jared Franek who finished his prep career with 272 career wins. 

  • Wrestled in four Junior and Cadet National Tournaments during his prep wrestling career.

  • Two-time Junior Nationals All-American.

  • Recipient of the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NDAPSSA) Special Achievement Award in 2015 following his historic prep wrestling career in which he won six NDHSAA individual state championships.

  • Named the North Dakota recipient of the Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award in 2015 following his senior year of competition. The award-named after the former Olympic and World champion wrestler-is given to 49 individual state winners and is based on wrestling excellence, citizenship, scholastic achievement and community service.

COLLEGIATE WRESTLING CAREER

  • Wrestled at NCAA Division I University of Nebraska from 2015-2019.

  • Redshirted during the 2015-16 season.

  • Finished his collegiate wrestling career 34-24 with six career pins, four tech falls and nine major decisions.

  • Was 6-9 in team dual competitions for the Huskers.

  • Wrestled in the 2019 Big Ten Wrestling Championships his junior year going 1-2 at the event.

  • Scored his first win over a Top-20 ranked opponent his junior season – a 10-2 major decision over All-American Minnesota standout Tommy Thon (ranked No. 19 at the time of the match).   

  • Did not wrestle his senior year after being accepted to Medical School.

OTHER AWARDS/HONORS

  • Big Ten Distinguished Scholar (2017 and 2018) at the University of Nebraska.

  • Three-Time Academic All-Big Ten Honoree (2017, 2018, 2019).

  • Nebraska Outstanding Scholar Award (2019)

  • 7-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll recipient earning a perfect 4.0 GPA in the Fall Semester of 2015, Fall Semester of 2018 and Spring Semester of 2018.

  • Tom Osborne Citizenship Team (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019)

  • Attended Medical School at the University of North Dakota.

  • 2023 North Dakota High School Wrestling Hall of Fame inductee.
