NDHSAA Member School Alumni: Laura Kraft, former Jamestown HS girls golf standout

This week's NDHSAA Member School Alumni Spotlight shines on Laura Kraft, a 2011 graduate of Jamestown High School. Kraft won three NDHSAA Class A girls golf individual state championships and played collegiate golf at NCAA Division I University of Missouri.

LAURA KRAFT - PREP GIRLS GOLF STANDOUT AT JAMESTOWN HIGH SCHOOL

GRADUATION YEAR: 2011

HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC CAREER

GIRLS GOLF:

  • One of only two girls golf players in state history to win three consecutive NDHSAA Class A individual state championships (2008-2010).

  • Was a four-time all-state finisher (individual Top 10 finisher at State Tournament) and five-time All-Western Dakota Association selection. 

  • Won 20 meets/tournaments in her prep golfing career. 

  • Won the 2010 NDHSAA Class A girls golf individual state championship her senior season shooting a two-day total of 147 strokes at her home course - the Jamestown Country Club.

  • Won the 2009 NDHSAA Class A girls golf individual state championship as a junior shooting a round of 71 at Bois de Sioux Golf Course in Wahpeton.

  • Won the 2008 NDHSAA Class A girls golf individual state championship as a sophomore shooting a two-day total of 145 at the Minot Country Club.

  • Finished tied for seventh place at the 2007 NDHSAA Class A Girls Golf State Tournament (freshman season) earning all-state honors for a Top-10 individual finish. She finished with a two-day total of 160 strokes at the tournament played at Rose Creek Golf Course in Fargo.

  • Two-time West Region girls golf tournament medalist (2008 and 2010).

  • Led the state in scoring average in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Her senior year (2010) Kraft owned a 75.0 scoring average.

  • North Dakota High School Coaches Association (NDHSCA) West Region Girls Golf Senior Athlete of the Year in 2010.

  • North Dakota High School Coaches Association (NDHSCA) Class A Girls Golf Senior Athlete of the Year in 2010.

OTHER HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES:

  • Played basketball for Jamestown High School. Also participated in choir and orchestra at Jamestown High School.

NON-HIGH SCHOOL AMATUER GOLF CAREER

  • Two-time winner of the North Dakota Women’s Golf Association Stroke Play Tournament (2010 and 2011).

  • Competed in several Junior PGA women’s tournaments and championship events during her prep years.

  • Won a PGA Junior Series event at KickingBird Golf Club (Edmond, Okla.) in June of 2009. Kraft won the event shooting rounds of 75-72-71 for a three-day total of 218.

COLLEGIATE GOLF CAREER

  • Played four seasons at the University of Missouri (Mizzou), an NCAA Division I Program competing in the Big 12 Conference (2011) and Southeastern Conference (2012-2014) during Kraft’s tenure in the program. 

  • In her four seasons with the Tigers, Kraft played in a total of 28 tournaments, golfed 83 rounds and posted a scoring average of 77.95 in her career.

  • Posted a career-best scoring round of 68 her senior season (2014-15).

  • Posted two Top-10 finishes in her collegiate career - one her junior season and one her senior season.

  • Scored in the Top-20 five different times in her collegiate career - twice as a sophomore, once as a junior and twice as a senior.

  • Competed in the SEC Championships her sophomore, junior and senior seasons.

  • Graduated with a degree in Chemistry and a minor in Mathematics. Also attended graduate school earning a Masters Degree in Positive Coaching.
