GFRR's Jocelyn Schiller adds CC individual title to her athletic accolades in 2023, BHS Demons win Class A Girls CC team title

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Grand Forks Red River senior Jocelyn Schiller has put together an impressive athletic resume in 2023.

In February, Schiller became Red River’s all-time leading scorer in girls basketball.

In March, Schiller scored 34 points in the 2023 NDHSAA Class A girls basketball championship game helping Red River to the state title.

In May, Schiller won the Class A Girls 400 Meters individual state title and ran the anchor legs of Red River’s 4x800 and 4x400 Meter Relays that won state championships at the 2023 NDHSAA Track and Field State Meet.

On Saturday, October 28 Schiller added to her lengthy list of athletic accomplishments during the current calendar year by winning the Class A girls cross country individual state championship during the 2023 NDHSAA State Meet held at Jamestown’s Parkhurst Campground/Pipestem Reservoir.

Schiller finished with a time of 19 minutes, 24.3 seconds. She is the first Grand Forks Red River girls cross country runner to win an individual state championship.

In the team race, Bismarck High won its first Class A girls cross country team state title since 2015. The Demons have now won 11 Class A girls cross country team state championships in program history (1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2023).

Leading the way for the Demons was freshman Izzy Dahl, who finished the fourth individually with a time of 19:36.0. Bismarck High finishers joining Dahl in the Top 20 as All-State finishers were Aubrey Kleser (fifth, 19:46.0), Taya Fettig (eighth, 19:53.8), and Bayla Weigel (ninth, 19:54.6).

Williston finished runner up in the team race with 67 points.

Valley City senior Reagan Berg finished runner up in the individual race in a time of 19:28.2.
