FARGO – South Border rallied to win the program’s first NDHSAA Class B boys wrestling team dual state championship since 2018.

The Mustangs defeated Northern Lights in the 2024 NDHSAA Class B boys wrestling team dual state championship match on Saturday, February 17 at the FARGODOME.

South Border fell behind 15-0 after the first two matches of the dual before Tristen Lepp got the Mustangs on the board with a pin at 133 pounds.

Northern Lights answered with two straight decisions at 139 and 145 pounds to take a 21-6 lead.

South Border stormed back in a big way scoring three straight pins courtesy of Brody Hoffman (152 pounds), Cole Stock (160 pounds), and Jace Nitschke (172 pounds). Just like that it was 24-21 in favor of the Mustangs.

Northern Lights tied it up 24-24 with a decision at 189 pounds courtesy of Cole Henderson.

South Border would regain control with two straight pins at the 215 and 285 pound weight classes with Shane Nitschke and Cole Nitschke, respectively, picking up bonus points with falls in those matches.

The dual state championship was clinched with Cole Nitschke’s pin at 285 pounds. The team dual state championship is South Border’s sixth in program history (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2018, 2024).
