NDHSAA Board approves election of three new members for 2020-21 school year

VALLEY CITY, N.D. – The North Dakota High School Activities Association Board of Directors approved the election of three new members for the 2020-21 school year during a meeting held January 16.

Josh Johnson, Superintendent at Valley City Public Schools, was elected as the Class A At-Large representative.

Guy Fridley, Athletic Director at Dickinson High School, was elected as the North Dakota Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NDIAAA) representative.

Rick Diegel, Superintendent at Kidder County Public School District #1, was elected as the Class B Southeast representative.

Ballots were distributed to member schools following the October 2019 NDHSAA Membership Meeting held in Bismarck and were tallied via electronic ballot on January 16.

NDHSAA Board Members serve four-year terms.

Johnson will replace Scott Privratsky of Devils Lake as the Class A At-Large representative.

Fridley will replace Michael Sorlie of Gwinner as the North Dakota Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association representative.

Rick Diegel will replace Mitch Carlson of LaMoure as the Class B Southeast representative.

Johnson is in his fourth year as superintendent of Valley City Public School District. Johnson serves as the president of the Sheyenne Valley Special Education Unit, board member on the North Dakota State Board of Public Education, board member on the North Dakota Career and Technology Board, board member on the North Dakota Council of Educational Leaders, and a member of the Valley City Economic Development Corporation.

In the fall of 2009, Fridley began his secondary education career as a principal and athletic director at South Heart Public Schools. After spending three years at South Heart, he became the activities director for Dickinson Public Schools. He was named District 13 Athletic Director of the Year in 2012 and was named West Region Athletic Director of the Year twice (2014 & 2019) Fridley is a member of the NDCEL, NDASSP, NASSP, NDIAA, and NIAAA. He is an active board member for the NDIAAA. In the Dickinson community, Fridley serves on two boards, the Dickinson Diamonds (youth softball), and Dickinson Youth Football.

Diegel is in his 33rd year of Education and has served as the Superintendent of Kidder County Public School District #1 since 2015. Prior to his current position, Diegel taught and coached is Cresbard, South Dakota from 1987-1996 and in the fall of 1996 became the junior high/senior high principal in Edgeley, ND. In 200, Diegel began serving as Superintendent of Schools in Edgeley where he remained until 2015.
