FARGO, N.D. – The 2010s were kind to the Bismarck Century football team. The 2020s are starting off just as well for the Patriots.

Bismarck Century defeated West Fargo Sheyenne 34-0 in the 2020 NDHSAA Division AAA football state championship game on Friday, November 13 during Dakota Bowl XXVIII at the FARGODOME.

The Patriots have now won back-to-back Division AAA state titles. Friday’s matchup with the Mustangs was a rematch of the 2019 state championship, which Century won 10-0.

The 2019 state championship closed the books on a successful decade for the program, which saw the Patriots make six Dakota Bowl appearances and win three state titles (2015, 2016 and 2019).

On Friday, Century seized control early and never allowed the Mustangs to get comfortable. Peyton Arndt scored on an eight-yard touchdown with 4:02 left in the first quarter to get on the board. Wade James added a 34-yard field goal to put the Patriots up by two scores.

A pair of rushing touchdowns by Cade Garcia to close out the first half allowed the Patriots to hold a 24-0 lead at halftime.

The second half was much of the same. Century got a rushing score from Noah Schaffner and James added another field goal, this one coming from 43 yards.

Garcia finished the game with 142 rushing yards to lead the Patriots.

On defense the Patriots were led by Lucas Schweigert who recorded eight tackles and a sack.

The Patriots did a good job of containing West Fargo Sheyenne’s leading rusher and NDSU football commit Barika Kpeenu. Kpeenu rushed for 38 yards on 11 carries.

Century finishes the season 10-0. The Patriots have won 22 straight football games after going 12-0 last fall.

West Fargo Sheyenne finished the 2020 campaign 9-1.
