FARGO – In just its third season as a varsity football program, the West Fargo Horace Hawks walked away from a Dakota Bowl with an NDHSAA football state championship.

West Fargo Horace defeated No. 1-ranked Grand Forks Red River 14-8 in the NDHSAA Division AA state championship game during Dakota Bowl XXXII on Friday, November 15 at the FARGODOME.

Leading the way for the Hawks was junior running back Ty Geray who finished the game with 75 yards rushing and a touchdown.

Red River out-gained Horace 263-138 in total offensive yards, but turned the ball over four times in the loss. The Roughriders also had 16 first downs on offense compared to just six for Horace.

A key turnover was an interception hauled in by Horce’s Israel Bauer who returned it 50 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter.

West Fargo Horace led 14-0 at halftime.

Red River would get on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter when Red River senior quarterback Pearce Parks connected with Noah Brandvold for a three-yard touchdown pass. Red River would convert the ensuing two-point pass, but never was able to overtake Horace’s lead the rest of the way.

West Fargo Horace finished the season 10-2. Grand Forks Red River ended the season 11-1.
