GRAND FORKS – After a runner up finish a year ago at the 2023 state tournament, the Bismarck Legacy boys soccer team was able to break through for a state championship finish in 2024.

Legacy defeated West Fargo High 1-0 in the state championship match of the 2024 NDHSAA Boys Soccer State Tournament on Saturday, October 12 at Cushman Field.

The Sabers scored the lone goal of the finale in the fourth minute of play in the second half courtesy of Junior midfielder Uriel Rivera.

Rivera’s goal was unassisted and was his third of the state tournament.

Legacy senior goalkeeper Liam Horner made nine saves in net to help the Sabers seal their program’s first ever state championship. Legacy finished the 2024 season with a 12-3-4 record.

The Sabers were making their fifth consecutive state tournament appearance (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024).

West Fargo High was making its first appearance in a state final since 2022 and now is 5-2 all-time in state championship matches as a program.
