GRAND FORKS – Thursday’s NDHSAA boys tennis team dual state championship match between Grand Forks Central and Grand Forks Red River came down to the wire.

At the end of the wire was a No. 3 singles match to decide the pivotal match between the two perennial boys tennis power programs played at Grand Forks Choice Health and Fitness.

In the end, Grand Forks Central edged the Roughriders 3-2 getting a come-from-behind win from eighth grader Cole Wilber at No. 3 singles giving the Knights their first team dual state title since 2018.

Wilber and Red River’s Karsen Johnson were locked at a set apiece needing a third to break the gridlock. Wilber rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the third set to win 6-4. The final score of the No. 3 singles match was 4-6, 7-6(7-5), 6-4.

Central also received singles wins from Logan Sandberg and Ryder McDonald. The Knights finished the season 15-0 in team dual competition.
